The high priest was anointed by the pouring of oil upon his head.
In Ann's case, it was an amount so profuse that it" ran down on Aarons beard, down upon the collar of his robes" (Psalms 133:2).
In Matthew 26:7, the woman who anointed the head of Jesus was doing something more significant than she realized... Her act of love was symbolic of Jesus as our great high priest, and office beautifully described in Exodus 28 by the garments the priest wore.
The most conspicuous garment was the breastplate in which 12 precious Jewels were engraved with the names of the 12 tribes of Israel.
Also significant were the to onyx stones on the high priest shoulders that were engraved with their 12 names.
" On his shoulders" (v. 12) and" over his heart"v (. 29) were the two places of intercession.
Jesus, our great High Priest, bares our name and needs before the father continually.... We are always on his heart!
He also carries our needs on his shoulders, making it unnecessary for us to carry them.... Instead of worrying about our needs, let us rejoice that he is our anointed high priest:
" He always lives to intercede" for us (Hebrews 7:25).
